happy Monday

today is the second day of my two-day rest day. my work sched this week is so weird. i'll be working tom and tuesday and will be off again thursday and friday then work again saturday. but i am NOT complaining. who would if you get one month off from work (albeit without pay) that starts april 5 (sunday) with a week-long stay in bantayan island!

i spent the whole morning at home with my never-ending preparation for our almost-two-years-old zach's parties (yes, two; an advance party in bantayan and a lolo and lola-sponsored party on his birthday in surigao). it's so funny how OC i am! i arranged and re-arranged, packed and unpacked the party stuff i have bought. i've bought them since last week and i was still buying some this afternoon.

i was happy i had lunch at home before i left to do some errands. at least i didn't have to spend. went to my happy place (with M's "approval") to pay phone bills and buy some stuff (still for the party). so happy i chose to park at ayala's free parking area. aside from not having to pay P25 (which could buy me 4 banana cues), i also got to have some exercise by walking from the parking area to the mall :).

so happy with the items i bought for the parties. instead of the usual (at least in most parties i've attended) candies and goodies and toys in the loot bags, i chose "functional" items like notebooks, pens and pencils and crayons. but i will still give away small toys and candies (for every kid loves to have them as well).

found barney ( zach's latest "addiction") pillows at dakki and got a for-members-only 22% discount (i signed up some 6 years ago i was surprised i could still enjoy the discount) and thomas and friends (another addiction) inflatable beach stuff at metro ayala for zach and marti. i'm so amazed and amused at how "crazy" zach is over them! and how marti is "gaga" over cars. you know, lightning mcqueen and all. she even told M to buy a new red car!

i was also able to buy marti and zach their favorite barney and thomas and friends DVDs on sale. i don't buy them on regular prices, i always wait for ayala's yearly mall-wide sale. and while i was at odyssey, i asked for MYMP's latest album. i've always loved the way they sing and their choice of songs but since i had more important things to spend on (like shoes and watches) err... like milk and diapers and i didn't want to have pirated copies, i never bought any of their albums. i've always loved music and it's really been a while since i last listened to the kind that makes me smile. today, juris and chin's 2-cd album did just that. i told myself it was also worth the wait, this new album is a collection of all their best songs. i was smiling in the car on my way home :).

my dearest bro's FB status: "passed his language exam and is moving on..." whatever that means but i know it means something to him otherwise he shouldn't have posted it :). who knows, it means getting a higher position now that he can speak the language.

signing off now with a big smile on my face...will be working 8 hours from now.

the earth hour

so happy to have joined the world in the observance of earth hour on saturday, march 28th.

my 3-year old martina was so "excited" about it. weeks before THE day, i was already telling her and the entire household about it.

aside from having helped the environment, we also had a great family bonding during that one hour. all of us stayed outside the apartment (but stayed inside the compound); we walked and talked and played and watched others who did not participate :(.

after an hour, i told myself that from now on, i will have an "earth hour" everyday. just my little way of giving back to mother earth.

i was amazed and happy that the big malls and some establishments also took part in helping the environment with their participation in the earth hour. i guess it's really also a matter of information dissemination, a lot of people were more aware of it this time. next should be using recyclable stuff.

booked

just got home from PAL ticket office. we already bought our plane tickets to and from Butuan. i originally reserved all of us for the lowest-priced fare available through phone @ P2,229/person round trip but was glad to find out at the ticket office that there were still 4 available slots for a much lower fare (P1,119). and i won't be paying full for my almost-two zachy boy, just 10% (P190). he won't get a seat, though but it's perfectly fine.

excited

if you see me smiling these days, it's because i can't contain my excitement over my one-month leave of absence. yes, ONE MONTH. that would be without pay but it's fine as long as i can spend two weeks in my hometown in Surigao after 3 years that i haven't been there. i booked our plane tickets today with PAL. we will be taking the Cebu-Butuan flight then enjoy a quite-bumpy land trip to Tago.

before that, we will be spending one week in the beautiful Bantayan Island starting on Sunday before Holy Week and ending on Easter Sunday. i've already bought my swimming outfit, sunblock and suntanning lotions, the kids' inflatable stuff and a whole lot more.

zach will have a simple advance birthday celebration in Bantayan and will spend his 2nd birthday on April 21 in Tago. my folks are uber excited, they even offered to "sponsor" the party.

excited...excited...to the highest level!

leen, sorry, ako diay ang wala inig ari nimo sa april...

03.23.2009

today is the last day of my 4 days off from work. i spent the first part of the morning paying my brother's real estate tax at the City Hall. i was impressed that the process went smoothly, i was done in less than an hour. i was amazed at how "pretty" the City Hall has become. since i was already in the area and i got a good parking, i seized the opportunity of visiting the Sto. Niño and lighting candles for Him. i also took pictures of the pilgrim center and the Magellan's cross as well as the City Hall. i was one of the tourists there this morning. it felt good being there without having to leave immediately.

i went to SM with mom and cousin, Bing around noontime. as much as i wanted to grab new clothes for me, there were no pretty plus-sized pieces. frustrating! and since i was (and still am) not over my disappointment over the disapproval of my leave application, i got myself three books from my to-read list: snow flower and the secret fan by lisa see; three cups of tea by greg mortenson & david oliver relin and nights in rodanthe by nicholas sparks. would have wanted to include the lucky one but it was out-of-stock.

the 'main highlight' of the day is the sale of M's white Honda Civic as fast as a blink of an eye. my ex-officemate at the bank mentioned to me last friday that somebody was interested to see the car but i was too busy to bring it to him. today, he asked again and M said he will take care of it because i was busy. they met at the bank's parking area and i was so surprised when he got home at 4 PM with the buyer in tow :) the buyer liked the car and paid him right there and then. i still couldn't believe it all happened so fast but as M would say, we have already decided to sell it since last year and there's no point in holding on to it now that we found a buyer. you might be wondering why we wanted to sell his car. it's part of our anti-global crisis measures :) seriously, we all believe it's quite impractical already to be maintaining two cars when both M and i drive just within the city, our offices are even at the same area. with the proceeds of the sale of the car, i can now pay all my credit card dues and start anew :).

that's all. i just wanted to "document" this day, the day we said goodbye to GLV 272.

On Dreaming

No, not the dreams the you have when you sleep.

Some people have really big dreams. I am not quite sure if I am a believer in dreaming big dreams but I am certain I have two "major" ones at this time. And I know that will power and self-control are the key to realizing them.

So help me God.

this global crisis...

...is making me so scared. everything is so uncertain. a lot has been said about it but i didn't give it much thought until i had some "serious" talk with S.

now, more than ever, i should strictly and religiously monitor and review my expenses and implement cost-cutting and cost-saving strategies.

i could not afford to not have funds, what with two growing toddlers in the family. it's not enough to solely depend on the hub.

guess i have to give up mango sushi and warm brownie cup and fraps =)
