two years

it's been two years since we lost our loving Dad but it's still as painful! it makes me think that time doesn't really heal the pain of losing a loved one to death.

had these made for Daddy's death anniversary

we are offering masses today for him, our aunt, and cousin. please whisper a prayer for the eternal repose of their souls.

06.29.2011

yesterday was the 45th birthday of my Canada-based sister, Chu and the 15th birthday of her youngest child, Vince. we celebrated by hearing mass at Redemptorist church and having the kids' favorite(st) Pizza Hut stuffed crust Hawaiian pizza with extra ham.

praying that the Lord will continue to bless them with good health and that He will always provide for all their needs.

yesterday, too, was the first day i drove both M and Z to school. it is quite a challenge driving two kids whose schools are on opposite ends and with only a 30-minute interval in their class schedule. i was very happy and thankful that they woke up and got themselves ready early enough for us to be able to leave home at exactly 7:00 A.M. we made it to M's school at 7:20 and to Z's at 7:39. i was too happy about it, i gave each of them a prize.

they're currently crazy over anything Handy Manny-ish :)

Happy 8th!

today, my youngest sister, S' baby Sofia Beatriz turns 8 months old. although some people comment that she's 'tiny' for her age, i don't see any problem because she is (by God's grace) a healthy, beautiful girl.

happy 8th, Beakins! hope you will celebrate your first birthday in Cebu. :)

mother's day 2011

i am blessed! i am blessed with thoughtful and generous siblings. my youngest sister, S and her hubby, treated us to an overnight stay at Crimson resort on mother's day weekend. sharing some photos of that special day:

keep it up, li'l boy!

our almost-four-year-old boy, Zach, finished Pre-Nursery at PAREF Southdale school on March 22nd. his school only gives non-academic awards at this level and academic ones from nursery to high school unlike his sister's who only gives awards when you're already in your 4th year in high school.

he got the 'Diligent' award. the teacher wrote "Izach is always careful and persevering in carrying out a task; he listens to every detail in the lesson or the story being told. And when asked about it, surely he can give you a confident answer. Keep it up, Izach! "

i hope our son will be as articulate and as witty in the coming years as he is now. this may sound odd or funny or too ambitious but i really want to go up the stage for his awards. :) ohh, i also hope he will not just be smart but well-mannered as well.

Congratulations, Dearest One!

our eldest child, Martina, finished Kindergarten 1 at Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus on March 11, 2011. i was the happiest and most grateful in our family!

if you know what she has we have been through when she went to this big school, you would understand how very happy and emotional and grateful i was (and still am)!

to begin with, i will never ever get over the fact that she hardly survived. she was only 32 weeks when i gave birth to her (way too early due to pre-eclampsia) and weighed only 2 lbs and 4 oz! she stayed at the NICU for 6 weeks, underwent a 45-minute surgery for both eyes (she had stage 4 Retinopathy of Prematurity which would make her blind if not operated on early), has no peripheral vision due to the surgery. in December 2009, she was found to have lazy eye and had to start wearing thick eyeglasses. i could go on and on but it will just tear my heart apart. the bottomline is, our 5-year old daughter is a MIRACLE! and every little thing that she is able to do is something we celebrate! she may have been through a lot but she's aso abundantly blessed! although she was born a preemie, she has caught up, by God's amazing grace!

our daughter is super duper extremely shy. so, when she was 3 years old, i enrolled her in playgroup at a small school hoping to have her social skills developed. she stayed there until nursery then we decided to move her to a bigger one for a "balanced" school life. it was a BIG daily challenge sending her to her class. she was only able to adjust (meaning going to the classroom alone without cyring) late part of February. no one (not even us nor her teacher) really knew or understood why she cried everyday from the gate to the classroom. i am just glad she survuved her first year in the big school!

..I will follow Him, follow Him wherever He may go...

isn't it great that she's 'performing'? :)

she's the only one in class who wears eyeglasses

the kids, lately

the little girl's quarterly exams for this school year finally ended last Friday. it was such a relief that we didn't have to review anymore. although i don't pressure her much (because at her age, she still shouldn't be stressed with school), it's still quite stressful for me because she always has a lot to say when it's review time like "Ma, I know that already. Can I just play and rest?"

she's not really into 'posing'
this week, it will just be rehearsals for their musical play. this will be shown during their culminating program on the 11th. our daughter being extremely shy, seldom tells us about their school activities that i often just learn about them from fellow moms. i knew about this play when i heard her humming and singing "I love Him, I love Him, I love Him and where He goes, I'll follow..." she was amazed that I knew the song! we then did a duet. i maybe biased but i think she sings well. i'm happy. :)

the little boy, on the other hand, still has regular classes. being still at pre-nursery level, they don't have tests yet. but they will have their own culminating activity on the 22nd. i still don't know what he will be doing this time but i'm pretty sure, it will make me cry. :) unlike his shy sister, this boy never runs out of things to say and is not shy performing before an audience. i'm glad he takes it after me. :)

his birthday is in April yet but he's envious of his classmates celebrating their birthdays in school so he asked me if he could also celebrate it there. i am thinking of doing it on the 21st (their last day and the day he's 3 years & exactly 11 months old). i was planning to serve (he only has 10 classmates) McDo happy meal (which comes with a toy; Spongebob is the featured character) so I won't have to prepare loot bags or tokens (although knowing me, I doubt it) but our little boy said he only wants to serve knick knacks (biscuits) milk flavor. cutie! :)

beggar :-)

early this year, the hubby and I decided that we will send both kids to the same school so we can save on gas and time (and my effort). :) the daughter's school was the preferred choice, it being just a 10-minute drive from where we live. last month, we let our son take the entrance test and interview and he passed, qualified to enroll next school year. however, 2-3 weeks ago, Z told us that he just wants to stay at his current school. i was able to convince the hub to allow him because after all, it's just 'perfect' for Z.

last week, M told me (out of the blue) that she also wants to transfer to Z's school. i hope she doesn't change her mind because although i agreed with the hub to put both of them in M's school, i was actually secretly wishing they will both stay at Z's. i just love the creative way they teach the kids! AND of course, i love it that they have no Chinese class there. i don't want M and i to be stressed with Chinese. she will be taking the entrance test and interview at PAREF on the 14th and i'm praying she will answer. you just don't know how shy she could get!

to Stella and Nap

Happy, happy 2nd Wedding Anniversary! May the Lord continue to bless you abundantly. Kisses.

Nap and Stella with their Sofia Beatriz (January 2, 2011)

being grateful

when i started blogging a few years back, i planned to make a daily or weekly gratitude list to remind me of all the blessings I should be grateful for. i got too lazy to do it, i ended up doing a yearly gratitude list once.

now that the first quarter of 2011 has not yet ended, i have this desire (again) to do write my list on a weekly basis (starting Sundays). that way, i can always refer to it when i have moments that i feel un-blessed. :)

this week, i am thankful for:

* my 3-year old son waking up early (without commotion) for his class at 8:00 AM

* getting to have the little do her homework without having to argue

* hearing Sunday mass. yes, there are Sundays we don't get to go to church.

* making the hub and kids happy with my inexpensive (surprise) gifts for them on Valentine's day

* a benign result for Mama's biopsy; a positive feedback about her routine eye check

* lots of time for myself :)

* reading. i've been aiming to read at least 2 books every month but right now, i'm on my 4th for this month. woohoo!

* bonding with cousin and friend, L

* finally having the determination to try for the millionth time  shape up and actually writing down one specific goal for a 3-week period (yes, i've read that for our goals to be realistic and doable, they have to be very specific and be done for at least 21 days)

* sticking to my (very) first goal of not having rice at dinner

* conversations with friends  (YM, FB, Twitter, SMS)

* being with my daughter at her classmate's birthday pool party. yes, she specially requested for me. i also really wanted to go because swimming, although fun for kids, could be really dangerous. you can just imagine how i was at the party =)

* spending Saturday night quietly at home with the family. the hubby and Zach watched Thomas and Friends on YouTube while the little girl and I read stories.

* the gift of our life; good health; family and friends; a dependable house help and yaya; the hubby's job and our finances

Remembering Daddy

today would have been Daddy's 71st birthday.

we still miss him so much. and we continue to pray for his eternal rest. we celebrated his special day quietly but fondly and lovingly. we, Mama and the Cruzes had lunch at Roma Mia and coffee at Seattle's Best. when we got home after the 6:00 PM mass, Marti suggested that we light some sparklers and we did! we pointed them to the sky and shouted Happy Birthday, Lo! We love you.

Daddy was a very doting, super Lolo

the gift of sharing

our only brother gives to charity every year and when he does, he always doesn't want his name published. this year, we decided to choose the Kythe foundation which takes care of kids with cancer and they're raising funds through the Christmas village/train of hope set up at Marco Polo's lobby.
